Welcome fellow woodworker! Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Did you know you can Mail-In your order?
