Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Welcome fellow woodworker! Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children.
