Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Welcome fellow woodworker! Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up.
