Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present.
