Here is a 44" wide, cedar-lined hope chest. A tray slides side-to-side on waxed rails just under the lid. It's a basic design with no fancy joinery to confuse novices. All cuts are straight or angular, except for the attractive scroll work you can cut using the bandsaw, hand tools, or scrollsaw -- it's the scroll work which really defines this chest from others. Full size patterns are provided for the scroll work.
18" tall, by 18" deep, by 44" wide is the finished size. The plans include full size patterns for the scrolled skirts and the side/back lid rails. Large format measured drawings, a list of materials, and our toll free support are also included. The relief carving on the face of the chest is a pre-fab piece of "hardware", so there is not a pattern included for it. The plan does detail where you can get the pictured carving, but you might use a different pre-fab, carve your own, or even omit it.
