Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present.
