Welcome fellow woodworker! Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Welcome fellow woodworker! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter.
