One customer called to let us know he was constructing these rocking horses for under $20 each! He was using laminated 2x4 pine lumber...hence the low cost. He told us they were coming out nicely despite the quality of the material -- it's all in the finishing.

Whichever wood you use, stains or paint, this rocking horse with its classy design has all sorts of potential to remain an heirloom long after you're gone. The plans detail which woods to use to finish the project as it appears in the photo. Full size patterns are provided to keep hassles down (as with all of our plans), plus you get a full list of the materials you need, some photos, assembly diagrams, and instructions. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags.
