Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Welcome fellow woodworker! Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children.
