White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present.
