"Merrilegs" is sure to delight the heart of any youngster and provide a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction for the woodworker. You can build this rocking horse using our plan. Easy to make, this sturdy, sure-footed pony has been created to capture the spirit and beauty of an antique loyal steed. Cut the lumber to size using the provided materials list, then cut and shape the pieces using the full size, traceable patterns. 3' x 4' large blueprint!

The rockers are calibrated curves to give maximum action and they are recurved at the ends for safety against tipping. The piece can be made of pine, or if you prefer, it can be made of a more expensive hardwood. Finishing possibilities are endless. The photos you see here are ones sent by fellow woodworkers of their finished rocking horses -- so many look great!

Overall finished dimensions: 52-1/4" long, 12" wide, by 28-1/2" high. Note: Instructions are limited due to the intuitive nature of the rocking horse -- shop notes are provided, however, along with a full materials list, exploded assembly diagrams, and full size patterns.

Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets!
