Each car is about 8" long, making the train nearly 50" long. Make from pine and cedar as shown, or mix woods and stains, or even paint to get an entirely different appearance. Great fun for the woodworker and the giftee.

If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building!
