Joining Wood – Techniques for Better Woodworking
by Nick Engler

122 pages published by Rodale Press.

Possibly the most important task in woodworking is joinery --- attaching one board to another.  There are countless woodworking joints – rabbets, dadoes, dovetails, mortises and tenons – to choose from. Which one do you use? How do you make it? In this book, author Nick Engler simplifies this subject showing how master woodworkers use good sense and a few elementary rules of thumb to produce strong, durable joints.  He also demonstrates how to make dozens of popular woodworking joints, from a simple miter to an elegant through dovetail using just five basic cuts.

The techniques required to make each joint are clearly illustrated, step by step, in over 200 drawings and photographs. There are plenty of shop-tested tips, ingenious jigs and fixtures, useful charts, and inside information to help develop your joinery skills.

Five Complete Project Plans Included: This book also features complete plans and instructions to build five popular projects that combine many of the joinery techniques explained in the text.

Cabinetmaker’s Workbench – Joins a mortise and tenon frame to a butcher block top to make a useful workbench that is a pleasure to use (and look at).
Cut Off Jig – For your table saw to make easy, precise, close-fitting joints.
Country Pewter Rack – Using simple dadoes and rabbets to build a display for knick-knacks.
Half-moon Bench – Assembled with traditional dovetails and wedged mortises and tenons.
Miniature Chest of Drawers – With stopped grooves, lock joints, reinforced miters and haunched mortises / tenons.

Publisher's Regular Price $19.95 – On Sale while supply lasts for $12.

A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up.            Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock.            Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat!            Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects.            Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter.            Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole.            Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags.            Call 1-800-296-6256 Mon-Fri from 8am to 2pm, EST, with your question or order.            Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back.            Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets!            Did you know you can Mail-In your order? Check the left of the page for a Mail-In Orderform link.            White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks.            If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present.            Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer.            Our low-cost First Class shipping is only $3.5o -- most plans parcels arrive to U.S.A. customers in just 3-5 days.            Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove.            Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them!            Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed.            Welcome fellow woodworker!            Welcome fellow woodworker!            Sign up for FREE Email Sale Alerts and save 10-30% on plans from time to time.
