The futon calls for sturdy oak framing and has a contemporary appeal. No special hardware is needed for the project. It's built around a 54"x 75" full-size futon mattress. Futon frame is much lighter than a conventional hide-a-bed. It's an intermediate level project.

Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer.
