If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects.
