Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks.
