Keep your stains and glues from freezing in your non-heated workshop by storing them in a plastic food cooler. Neat! If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Old croquet mallets, cut down to size, make inexpensive backup woodworking mallets! Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock.
