The garden bench can be built from everyday fence and patio stock available at home and garden centers, or plan on using higher end redwood or cedar (as was done with the pictured prototype). A comfortable contoured seat and sturdy construction, not to mention the unique inlay, make this a great project.

Two construction methods are outlined -- mortise and tenon joinery for more advanced woodworkers -- and an alternative method for the beginner which only requires basic shop tools and less advanced woodworking skills.

The full size patterns include the scrollsaw nature panorama inlay on the front of the seat (pictured below bench). Size: 65" wide x 36" high x 27" deep.

Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Welcome fellow woodworker! Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children.
