Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building! Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. Covering the back side of sandpaper with duct tape will make it last MUCH longer. Dented wood can often be repaired by heating a damp cloth with an iron over the dent...the wood will expand, filling the hole. Did you know you can Mail-In your order? Easily remove rusted screws by heating the head with a soltering iron -- it will expand, then contract making it easy to remove. Keep your table saw push stick close at hand by fastening it to the front of your saw table with velcro or magnets so you can quickly grab it when needed. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Welcome fellow woodworker! White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. The tips of different sizes of nails can be used as drill bits, working well on most wood stocks. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them!
