Keep your saw blades clean at all times. A gooey blade can cause dangerous kick back. If you have to bend small pieces of wood, wrap them in a damp towel and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high -- be certain no metal is present. Use a moist cloth to slightly dampen your hands before feeding stock through a cutter -- it gives you a much better grip on the stock. Welcome fellow woodworker! Abrasive wheels can be cleaned of goo with cooking spray -- it also helps prevent buildup of particulate matter. White pencils are very useful in woodworking...they make easy to see lines on darker wood stocks. Wipe the clear sheild of your safety glasses with a dryer static cling sheet -- it will keep sawdust from sticking to them! A roll up window blind or shade is a perfect place to store woodworking plans -- just tape them down and let the shade roll them up. Cloths used to wipe stain can be safely air dried in a well ventilated area away from pets and children. Extend the life of your tack cloths by putting them in baby food jars or ziplock storage bags. Petroleum jelly and cooking oils make perfect inexpensive, non-toxic light stains for projects. Measure twice, cut once -- the paramount rule of building!
